Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel
Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel, was the first son of Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel, also known as Saint Philip. Both would have been direct inheritors of the Duke of Norfolk title, had it not been brought under attainder by the supposed "treason" of the 4th Duke of Norfolk, Thomas Howard father of Philip, for his unconfirmed involvement in the Ridolphi Plot. He was brought to trial without the right to defend himself and was convicted. Even now there is controversy over whether he was involved in the plot; the purpose of which was to kill Elizabeth and promote Mary, Queen of Scots, to Queen of England.
Howard YDNA Project
To date, this has been our most popular test. It is relatively inexpensive and, if we already have a member of that family tested, can point to an immigrant ancestor. Our biggest success has been getting confirmed testing of many of the early immigrants descendants. Included in this list are:
1. Thomas Howard, of “Howard’s Mount” St. Mary’s County, Maryland
2. Edward Howard, Massachusetts
3. Isaac Howard, Rhode Island
5. John Howard, York County, Virginia
6. Joshua Howard, Maryland (Unconfirmed)
7. Mathew Howard, Nansemond County, VA & Anne Arundel County, Maryland
8. Unknown ancestor(s) of Seth, James, Obediah & Edward Howard of North Carolina
9. Thomas Hayward, Massachusetts
In addition to the known immigrant ancestors, we have family groups where no information is known about the immigrant ancestor and little about how the groups tie together.
If you are a male Howard, and you are interested in your ancestry, please join our project
